Do You Have A Problem With These Addictive Foods?
Do you find yourself eating certain foods and you just can’t stop? Perhaps you start craving a food you haven’t had in a while. These can just be signs that your body is sending you that it needs certain things. What other reason would you have a sudden urge for carrots?
There are addictive foods though that will make you crave them even more so. A new study shows that these are addictive foods that will grab ahold of you and never let go. Some of them may not be all that surprising, but you more than likely have found yourself unable to put them down.
Cheese is already part of the addictive foods because it’s so delicious. I mean, let’s be honest, everything tastes better with cheese on top of or inside it. Actually though, cheese has a protein in it called casein. This protein makes an almost morphine-like opiate that is released into your body. Cheese also contains natural stimulants. Talk about addictive foods.
These can be addictive foods just from the cheese you might put on them. It is also part of the addictive foods though because of the other stuff that is in the meat. Usually, processed meats like this have things like salt, sugar, and fat added to them. These particular things all trigger the reward center of your brain, making you want more.
Pizza is one of the ultimate addictive foods. It has a little bit of everything going for it in that department. You got your cheese, but you also have your bread and sauce. The bread is salt, maybe some sugars, and that thing we all love, carbs.
The sauce can also be part of the addictive foods. It has salts, sugars, and possibly meat. As if the cheese and bread weren’t bad enough, they add a little bit more with the sauce.
French fries can be part of the addictive foods just because of the fact you can’t stop eating them. Even after you’re full, you still continue to snack on them. This is in part due to the high amount of salt they have, but also because they are a carb.
Finally, one of the most addictive foods of all: chocolate. It’s not just because it absolutely delicious, but that it contains certain chemicals. These chemicals hit up the reward centers of your brain releasing dopamine. Did you know it also contains certain chemicals linked to alcoholism? Yikes!
The Addictive Foods Study
The study on addictive foods was done by the University of Michigan. In the study, they found that foods with added fats, refined carbs, and highly processed foods are the things that are the most addictive foods. Most people meet the same criteria with addictive foods that those with a substance addiction have.
All of the addictive foods trigger in our brains our reward center. This associates these foods in our brain with pleasure and happiness. For some, this can occur with soda especially. It isn’t necessarily the caffeine, but rather the sugar and salt that is abundant in the soda that leaves you craving.
